Exploring Dimensions of Age in Young People's LivesA discourse analytical approachDepartment of Sociology, University of Helsinki, PO Box 18 (Unioninkatu 35 FIN 00014, Helsinki, Finland; Sinikka.Aapola{at}Helsinki.Fi This article focuses on dimensions of age in young people's life contexts within a discourse analytical framework. The analysis is based on meanings of age presented by Finnish secondary school students. The data consist of 88 autobiographical essays, written by 15 to 16-year-old boys and girls. Age is approached as a socially constructed phenomenon, defined differently in varying contexts.
